2024 Grilled Cheese Showdown

Dear Grilled Cheese competitor, welcome to the 2024 Grilled Cheese Showdown! This year, your sandwich will be judged by representatives from the Cheese Lady Sisterhood for the Judges choice, and by the general public for the people’s choice award. Prizes for each category are as follows:
- Judges Choice: $150 gift card, $100 Cash, trophy
- People’s Choice: $100 gift card, $75 Cash, trophy
NOTE: In the unlikely event of a tie, teams will split the winnings
You should provide each judge’s choice judge with a sample between 1 and 2 inches squared
You should serve smaller samples to the general public, you have no obligation to serve all attendees, simply sample until your supplies are gone. We encourage a tip jar or similar if you wish to make some money to cover samples. You will not be allowed to sell your samples.
GENERAL RULES and REGULATIONS:
The competition is a Grilled Cheese Competition so your primary ingredient should be Cheese.
Ingredient Definitions
- Bread – Any leavened or unleavened, flour-based and baked thing that looks like and is considered to be “bread” by any cultural or ethnic interpretations.
- Butter – For the purposes of simplicity, all sandwich-grilling lubricants will be hereafter referred to as “Butter.” You can use oils or margarines if you prefer…. but why!!!!
- Cheese – Made from milk, goat, cow, lamb, buffalo, soy, or nut-derived.
You may have up to 3 non-cheese/bread ingredients.
- Herb/Herb Blend (multiple herbs are considered one ingredient)
- Meat
- Vegetables
- Sauce
- Condiments
- Fruit
Kent County Health Department Requirements: The license allowing you to serve samples to the general public is granted by the Kent County Health Department. The Cheese Lady has included your team under their Temporary Food Establishment license. Your “facility” will be inspected by the health/sanitation department prior to the competition. Any deviance from the rules and regulations could result in disqualification of your team, no refunds will be provided. Apart from what is provided by The Cheese Lady (outlined below) you are responsible for all other requirements. Teams MUST BE READY FOR INSPECTION BY 11AM. You may begin cooking prior to inspection if necessary.
Each Team will present to the judges prior to serving the public. We will begin the judging at 11:30 (approximately). As soon as your team is done presenting, you may start serving.
WHAT IS PROVIDED:
- 10×10 space
- Hand washing station
- Sanitary gloves
- sanitizing towel and water bucket
- $25 cheese credit at the Cheese Lady GR
WHAT CONTESTANT SHOULD BRING:
- Cooking ware and equipment/tools for cooking, including power and/or fuel
- Tables
- Tent
- Anything you need to make for your sandwiches
- Plates/napkins
The organizers of this event are not liable for any loss or damage, whether direct, indirect, consequential or otherwise arising from any cause whatsoever, which may be suffered by the entrants participating in the competition.
